In PCB world holes are two types
- Plated Through holes. Also knows as PTH. :- resistor, capacitor, inductor, transformer, header, connectors etc. Need that kind of holes. In plated through holes we have copper running around the hole. Refer below picture. Yes, via holes comes in the category of PTH.
- Through holes:- They are simple holes. We need those kind where electrical conductivity is not required. Some components have mounting provision made of plastic. In PCB we just made provision to lock / fix the component.
